In this way, it gives a flavour of how the European public approaches issues such as energy consumption, future energy sources and their acceptance of different sources of energy.The second publication that will be presented is the World Energy Technology Outlook 2050, a wide-ranging study of energy consumption and production patterns up to 2050.The study looks at energy development and CO emissions, and examines how these could change in the case of either a strict carbon constraint regime at global level, or a rapid development in technologies linked to the production and use of hydrogen as an energy carrier.The event : Technical briefing with experts from the European Commission's Directorate-General for Research, in the Berlaymont press room after the midday briefing.While the meeting has an open agenda, it can be expected to focus on energy security, climate change, the Middle East, trade and economic relations as well as the Doha Development Round, and a range of global challenges to which the US and the EU have an interest in a joint response.The EU-US trade relationship represents more than 1 billion dollars a day.It will present the first Strategic European Energy Review (SEER) that will endeavour to provide a vision - a central European energy objective - that will underpin a European energy Policy and give a practical step-by-step map on how to achieve this vision.This paper will be the basis for a broad discussion on the Energy Policy for Europe in the March European Council.

It will be the third bilateral meeting between the President Barroso and President Bush since beginning of 2005 and the second visit by President Barroso to the White House.
President Barroso will be accompanied by External Relations Commissioner Benita Ferrero-Waldner and Trade Commissioner Peter Mandelson.
